Equity

There’s a lot of information in earlier sections of this Guide explaining why improving gout needs to start with achieving equitable outcomes for whānau Māori and Pacific peoples with gout.

Actions and goals need to be outcomes focussed for whānau Māori and Pacific peoples with gout and include:

Achieving uric acid treatment goals, eg, 0.36 mmol/L or 0.30 mmol/L for people with tophi.
Continual use of uric acid lowering medicines.
Improved participation in family, work, sport and community activities.
Improved knowledge of the causes of gout and appropriate treatment.
No long-term use of NSAIDs.
